Getting Started: Your First Week with Visual Reading

A guide to beginning your Visual Reading journey with practical suggestions and tips.

Those who make the most progress do 2 things:

1. They read a book they WANT to read

2. They practice for at least 10 minutes every day

When you first start, you imagine that practicing for 10 minutes a day will not be difficult. You will be surprised to find that there are days when you haven’t managed it. Therefore, successful students also timetable their practice and set alarms.

If you find it hard to practice for 10 minutes on any particular day, try to do at least one minute, which will stop you sliding back.

Practicing for more than 10 minutes a day accelerates your progress exponentially. Practicing for less than 10 minutes a day reduces your progress exponentially.

Dring the first week (or two), you may find your brain coming up with ‘clever ideas’. Please ignore them. Your brain wants to do what it has always done, because that is easier and so feels more comfortable. It is essential that you follow our instructions and ignore any other ideas you may come up with. If you think you have come up with a useful idea, please let us know.

One of the impacts of those ideas is that your eyes stop following the movement of your finger, which eliminates progress.

If you find you are not enjoying your book, please change it for one you can enjoy.
